Naklo is a small settlement located near the town of Kranj in the Gorenjska region. One of the settlements in Naklo Municipality is Strahinj, where the Biotechnical Centre Naklo is located and where the 8th VIVUS 2024 conference will occur.

The municipality of Naklo is situated at an altitude of 407 m and has a total population of 5020 inhabitants. The municipality covers an area of 28.3 km². The municipality of Naklo unites three centres with a total of 13 settlements, namely Bistrica, Cegelnica, Gobovce, Malo Naklo, Naklo, Okroglo, Podbrezje, Polica, Spodnje Duplje, Strahinj, Zadraga, Zgornje Duplje and Žeje.

It lies in the Ljubljanska basin, on the Kranj plain, in the middle of the Nakel valley between the two oldest terraces of the Sava and the Tržiška Bistrica. It is surrounded on both sides by the woodland of Dobrava and Udin Boršt. It is bordered to the south and east by the municipality of Kranj, to the north by the municipality of Tržič, and to the west and northwest by the municipality of Radovljica. Although the Naklo valley is considered narrow, the municipality of Naklo has extremely good road connections. The Ljubljana - Jesenice motorway runs along the edge of Udin Borst, and the main road to Jesenice and Tržič runs on the western side. Both led to the crossing of the border between Italy and Austria.
